Taxco, in the state of Guerrero, is particularly famous for its silverwork and is regarded as one of the best sites in the world to acquire handmade silver jewellery and other products.

Alebrijes from Oaxaca
Oaxaca has a vibrant artistic and cultural heritage that has produced many exceptional handicrafts. It wasn't easy to choose just one item, but alebrijes is a well-known handicraft from this region. These hand-carved and painted wooden figures depict fantastical creatures, animals, or people in vibrant colours. Created by Pedro Linares, a cartonero in Mexico City, the popularity of these figures has spread to other parts of the country.
These colourful and imaginative figures are a representation of the people of Oaxaca, specifically the communities of San Martín Tilcajete and San Antonio Arrazola. They are carved from copal wood and painted traditionally, reflecting the technique that has been passed down as a valuable treasure. Alebrijes are a true embodiment of the rich cultural history of Oaxaca.
Tenangos from Hidalgo
Tenango de Doria, a town with Otomí (Hñähñu) and Tepehua communities, is renowned for its handmade and vibrant embroideries, also known as "tangos". The tradition dates back almost a century, and the women in the area have devoted themselves to creating colourful figures that embellish all types of fabrics.
Using diverse and eye-catching colours, the artisans embroider iconic motifs, typically inspired by nature, such as animals, flowers, or other shapes. The work is complex, and some designs may take up to 10 months to complete. These embroideries make unique cushions, tapestries, tablecloths, and other decorative items.
Trees of Life from Estado de México
The Árboles de la Vida, called Trees of Life, originated in Metepec. These beautiful works of art are handcrafted from clay and often resemble a tree or candelabra. Their branches are adorned with intricate figures and designs filled with colourful decorations, floral shapes, birds, and characters, showcasing the imagination of their creators. The figures scattered throughout the trees depict various scenes that tell stories of ancestral remembrance of Mexican culture, including religious events, historical events, and cultural traditions that speak to the history of our country. The Wixarika people, or Huichol, are an indigenous group from Mexico. They are famous for their intricate beadwork, which uses bright colours to create stunning designs.
