Hungry for Mexican?

Tamales

Tamales are an excellent example of Mexican street food, yet they can also be found at many restaurants. They are steamed pockets of dough produced from corn and loaded with different contents. When steamed, they are frequently covered in cornhusks or banana leaves. The fillings include chillies, vegetables, meats, fruits, and cheeses.

Elote

At first sight, you might think corn on the cob or corn kernels in a cup is nothing spectacular, but you'd need to be corrected if it's served in Mexico. Elote translates to "corn on the cob," but it is frequently eaten with a slew of spices and garnishes in Mexico. Lime, sour cream, salt, chilli powder, cheese, and other ingredients can be used.

Tostadas

Stale tortillas are always well-spent because they may be turned into tostadas, essentially fried ones. Cheese, meats, veggies, and garnishes generally accompany these. Tostadas are often filling, so you can share!

Chiles en nogada

This recipe is both patriotic and delicious. The ingredients include a delectable combination of fruits, spices, and chopped meat that represent the colours of the Mexican flag. The mixture is stuffed with Poblano chillies (the green in the Mexican flag), drizzled with a walnut-based cream sauce (the white in the flag), and pomegranate seeds placed on top to represent the red in the Mexican flag.

Tacos al pastor

This popular taco recipe is different from the tacos you've had elsewhere. The traditional recipe calls for thinly sliced pork, slow-roasted over a spit, with pineapple, coriander leaves and onions, all served on a corn tortilla.

Enchiladas

Enchiladas come in a wide variety of flavours in Mexico. They are constructed with a maize or flour tortilla and loaded with various items such as meat, fish or veggies. The enchiladas are frequently topped with a chilli sauce and garnishes. Enchiladas are commonly eaten for breakfast in Mexico but can be found anytime.

Chilaquiles

Breakfast is a significant event in Mexico, usually the day's largest meal. Chilaquiles, a popular morning meal, is made with lightly fried tortillas chopped into tiny pieces. They're then topped with salsa and a variety of breakfast dishes like eggs, cheese, cream, or chicken and served with a substantial side of refried beans, also known as frijoles.

Pozole

This is a thick, spicy and immensely popular hominy corn soup. It is typically cooked overnight with herbs, spices, chicken, pig, or vegetables. When ready, it is served with onions, radishes, limes, lettuce, and chiles.
